State Auditor Susan Montee

Susan Montee, a St. Joseph native is Missouri’s first statewide official elected from Buchanan County in over 125 years, and is also the first State Auditor to be both a CPA and attorney.

Following college in Springfield, Susan worked as a CPA; co-founded two successful businesses; earned her law degree; and was a stay-at-home mom.

Susan was elected to the St. Joseph City Council in 1998. In 2000, Susan was elected Buchanan County Auditor concurrent with completing her City Council services. In 2002, she was re-elected County Auditor and proceeded to update and modernize all aspects of the office.

Montee, the daughter of Arlene Humphrey and U.S. Marine Galen Humphrey, Missing-in-Action in Vietnam since 1966, has three children, Amanda, Andy, and Austin.
