Auditor Galloway accepts Jackson County Legislature's request to review government spending, operations

Independent audit will review fiscal management to provide transparency for Jackson County taxpayers

04/11/2018

Auditor Galloway today announced she will accept the request by the Jackson County Legislature to complete an audit of Jackson County. A resolution passed by the county legislature to grant authority for the audit specifically highlighted several areas of concern including county finances and procurement processes.

"My audit will objectively examine the concerns brought forward by county officials and provide a full accounting of how taxpayer dollars are managed," Auditor Galloway said. "The independent review will examine whether the county is operating efficiently, effectively and in a way that best serves the citizens of Jackson County."

In the coming months, the State Auditor's Office will begin efforts to gather additional information about the concerns of citizens and county officials to ensure the audit addresses any issues affecting residents.

Audit fieldwork is expected to begin later this year. Additional details on the timeline for completion and estimated cost will be available once audit staff has a better idea of the scope of the review.

Auditor Galloway encouraged citizens to provide information for consideration by contacting the State Auditor's Whistleblower Hotline at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov or by calling 800-347-8597. Concerns may also be submitted anonymously online at auditor.mo.gov/hotline.
