Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has announced the start of an audit of the Office of Administration's electronic purchasing program. The review will be conducted by the State Auditor's Data Analytics Technical Audit unit, which will examine operating practices and cybersecurity safeguards.
"As the state's independent financial watchdog, I recognize the importance in getting the best value for every single purchase made with taxpayer dollars," Auditor Galloway said. "State agencies should use the cost-savings tools available to them ensure Missouri tax dollars are spent wisely and efficiently. My team will review the system to determine whether appropriate oversight exists and if the data in the system is secure."
The Statewide eProcurement System, known as MissouriBUYS, is a web-based purchasing system used to solicit bids and secure vendor contracts for goods and services, with more than 13,000 vendors currently registered. It is billed as a user-friendly, one-stop-shop for state purchases and for vendors and small businesses who do business with the state. The audit will review internal controls and integration with the statewide financial accounting system.
