JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (May 16, 2018) Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway today announced a regularly scheduled audit of Worth County, located in northwest Missouri. The most recent audit of Worth County government was released in December 2014 and gave an overall performance rating of good.
"State audits can help local governments better serve their citizens by pointing out how to improve their operations and practices," Auditor Galloway said. "As we go forward with the audit of Worth County, I encourage any residents with information that may be helpful to contact my office."
The 2014 audit recommended that the County Commission closely monitor the county's financial condition and take necessary steps to ensure the general revenue fund has sufficient monies and to improve the fund's overall financial condition. The report also recommended the Commission review salaries paid to elected officials to ensure those salaries comply with state law, and evaluate if the officials were owed any amounts because of underpaid salaries. It also was recommended that the County Clerk take steps to improve property tax system controls and procedures.
