Auditor Galloway announces start of audit for Crawford County Collector's Office

State law requires an audit after a vacancy in a county collector's office

05/07/2018

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (May 7, 2018) Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway announced today that her office has started an audit of the Crawford County Collector's office, located in the county seat of Steelville. Audit work is currently underway.

"This audit will provide an independent review of the operations and finances of the collector's office to ensure taxpayer resources were used appropriately and with effective safeguards in place," Auditor Galloway said. "If anyone in the community has feedback that may be helpful during the course of the audit, they can reach out through my Whistleblower Hotline."

Missouri law requires an audit be performed when a vacancy occurs in a county collector office. Former County Collector Pat Schwent resigned in March after concerns of nepotism were reported. Linda Hamilton was appointed to fill the vacancy.

Individuals may provide confidential information for consideration during the audit to the State Auditor's Whistleblower Hotline at 800-347-8597 or by email at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov.
