JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (Jan. 29, 2019) Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway recently announced that her office has begun the petition audit of Monroe City, located in northeast Missouri. The audit was initiated after a citizen petition was submitted to the Auditor's Office.

"My office will conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the operations and practices of Monroe City government," Auditor Galloway said. "I appreciate the effort from citizens in initiating this review, which will ensure the city is operating efficiently and effectively on behalf of taxpayers."

Under Missouri law, the State Auditor`s office may be called on to audit a municipality if enough qualified voters of that entity request the audit. The Monroe City audit was initiated through the petition process, which required 200 valid signatures.
