Auditor Galloway statement on decision to end University of Missouri System bonus pay program

03/10/2017

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway released the following statement in response to an announcement that the University of Missouri System will terminate the executive performance incentive program.

"I'm pleased University of Missouri System leaders accepted responsibility and committed to ending bonus payments uncovered in my audit. I will be watching their progress and my team will return later this year to determine whether they have followed through on their commitment. I will also review whether other concerns related to transparency in executive pay and luxury vehicle allowances have been fully addressed. This decision is the start of a process to rebuild the trust of taxpayers, students, families and Missouri citizens."

The decision was announced by the University of Missouri System President and comes four days after Auditor Galloway released an audit that uncovered more than $2 million in hidden compensation to top UM System executives, including bonus payments, luxury vehicle allowances and other compensation not included in published salaries.
