On Feb. 4, 2019, the Clay County Commission released a statement regarding a recent legal action. The response to that statement from the State Auditor's Office is below:
"This is a grossly inaccurate statement. The subpoena has not been withdrawn. Today's legal action took place to ensure the case could proceed efficiently. It is concerning that the Clay County Commission would mislead citizens and the media in this way. The Auditor is confident in her legal authority and remains diligent as she works to get answers for taxpayers."
